Jones The supervisors that voted 4-1 yesterday to reject the MTA's budget were smart, deliberate, curious, and forward-looking, so it's no surprise that the Mayor Gavin Newsom's flack Nathan Ballard t old the Chronicle that they were "failing to grasp the big picture" and causing cuts in public health and other city services. If those cuts happen, that's Newsom's fault for blocking the new revenue measures that President David Chiu, who also led this charge in questioning

Experts said absolutely not when I interviewed them for an article in Sunday's paper on treatments for swine flu. But Liz Reego, a reader, argues that experts aren't giving people enough credit.
